About The Steel Trio:

The Steel Trio is Mark Orton- composer/lap steel guitar, Ben Goldberg- contralto clarinet, and Zeno Rossi- drums. Their music is both rootsy and modern, ranging from quiet chamber music dynamics to blistering orchestral rock. Tunguska, their first release, plays off of the serendipity of two seminal events both of which occurred on June 30th, 2008:

1. the 100th anniversary of the Tunguska Incident, when millions of acres of Siberian forest were mysteriously leveled by either a large meteor, UFO, or Nikola Tesla

2. Mark Orton's 40th birthday

While any meteor was likely composed largely of iron, The Steel Trio still draws inspiration from Tunguska in its approach to performance, leveling the imaginations of concert goers with their raw invention.
